Short answer
Plumbing is split between emergencies (“emergency plumber”, “burst pipe”) and booked work (bathroom installs, boiler jobs). Both start with a Google search — and for the emergencies especially, people call fast and don't scroll far. Your Business Profile decides whether that call comes to you.
Get your categories right
- Primary: “Plumber”.
- Secondary (only if you do them):“Heating contractor”, “Drainage service”, “Bathroom remodeler”.
Set your service area
You go to the customer, so you're a service-area business. Hide your address and list the towns you cover. A home address you can't verify is a common trigger for a suspension.
Win the emergency searches
For urgent jobs, three things decide who gets called:
- Accurate hours. If you genuinely offer 24/7, say so — and make sure it's true.
- Speed. Answer quickly. Searchers often call two or three plumbers and go with whoever picks up.
- Reviews that mention reliability.“Came out within the hour” is worth more than any advert.
Reviews are your best marketing

Frequently asked questions
Set your primary category to 'Plumber'. If you also do heating or drainage, add 'Heating contractor' or 'Drainage service' as secondary categories. The primary category is one of the strongest signals for showing up in plumbing searches.
